Panasonic 50p/60p AVCHD Import Tips for iMovie - Transcode TM700/TM900 MTS to AIC format

Panasonic HDC-TM700 is a camcorder introduced in early 2010 that is able to shoot 1080p 50/60P videos in AVCHD format. Generally the TM700 is proposed with 1080/50p (Full HD 1920x1080 with 50 progressive recording) in Europe, and 1080/60p (full HD 1920x1080 with 60 progressive recording) in America. As the successor to the lauded HDC-TM700, Panasonic HDC-TM900 offers the same fantastic video performance as its predecessor, particularly with its widely-praised 1080/60p mode.

With Panasonic TM700/TM900 cameras, you can take it to shoot full HD videos. However, bad news is currently the Panasonic 1080p 50p/60P AVCHD format is nearly impossible to be directly loaded to iMovie for editing. So how to solve those problems when you want to import Panasonic TM700/TM900 AVCHD files to iMovie for editing? As far as I know, the best method is to transcode Panasonic AVCHD footages to iMovie native formats (e.g. Apple Intermediate Codec(AIC) encoded .mov format). To help those who wanna edit Panasonic TM700/TM900 50/60p MTS videos in iMovie without crashing and rendering, here I will throw this quick guide up on how to convert Panasonic AVCHD to Apple ProRes and then load the encoded 1080p 50/60p AVCHD files into iMovie for editing.
